So now Amazon has decided to de-rank books on its site that it deems ‘adult’. This has been profoundly geared towards LGBT books, includes books which are high sellers, and the result is it makes them way harder to find and in some cases impossible, no matter how well written, critically acclaimed or top selling they are. Even Brokeback Mountain and Lady Chatterley’s Lover are included in this lame-as Moral F**k you, and it stinks.
So just to be clear, American Psycho a story about a sadistic sociopath is totally ok, but Anais Nin is not. Whats more their new ban is really uneven! Ellen Degeneres biography, ‘The Gay and Lesbian Self esteem book’ and a book about sexual assault are all deranked. Ron Jeremy’s Biography is ok. Hmmm. Surely Ron Jeremy’s book is pretty adult eh?

‘To protect the people who use the site from adult content’ from what? Seeing that picture of Jake Gyllenhal and Heath Ledger hugging? From learning that books with adult themes exist? Who the hell is using Amazon that is so scared of coming across Lady Chatterley’s Lover that they need it hidden, and are we even sure these prudes should be on the internet. Apparently this isn’t even as new as some think, it looks to have kicked off in February.
Well corporate censorship is bollocks, especially when it smacks of homophobia and fear of .
The googlebomb is coming also thanks to Smart Bitches Trashy Books Look what happened to Mr. Santorum.
As I write this they are saying ‘it’s a glitch’ but it is too targetted and deliberate to be just such an excuse, especially after they already admitted its policy-
