Yes. Yes it is.
And yes, I am.

My original review was just going to be a picture of two geeks high fiving. But this better sums up my own personal feelings.

Golly… I look around my blog and I see a lot of empty spaces….
When I first started writing it over a year ago I had the intention of trying to keep new content going up at least every week and preferably every other day. Yipes, I wonder what happened! In the last few months life has been extremely busy… I went away for most of April, I’ve been sitting exams, and generally I think a lot has fallen out of habit during this time… Like the blog! Though I’ve had a wonderful few months I really have with its ups and downs… And whats more now as things are starting to get back to normal and a proper break is looming the sun is starting to peek out and the weather is getting warmer.
So maybe it feels weird writing now because I’m out of practice, and will need to shake the cobwebs off my fingertips (Does that make sense, what a ikky analogy!)
In the last two months while I’ve not been blogging here are some things categorically but without chronological order, that I would have gone on a chocolate-fuelled rant about and posted here:
Politico:
1) Mrs Harriet Harming has got her wish to try her very best to punish men for paying for sex, (An activity when done by two consenting adults which is not a crime) and also to make vulnerable people (I might venture to remind, those who are not from the EU or have serious dangerous issues like abuse or addiction or…) less safe by making it that dangerous situations will be less likely to be reported, for fear of prosecution!
Good Job, this kind of b**lsh** is why the Labour party candidacy doesn’t include your name. Door. Hit. Ass. Way Out.
2) Cameron became Prime Minister! Gordon Brown delivered a wonderful farewell speech which made me truly feel for him! Nick Clegg cosied up! Drama!
All the ties match the party colours? That’s how we can tell them apart sometimes? When Cameron wears an aubergine tie I’ll be really confused.
3) Boris Johnson had Brian Haw arrested from his peaceful (and very long running) protest from Parliament Square so the Queen wouldn’t see him and the opening of the new Government would have a nice Iraq-war-free lawn. Good Job Johnson, you acted like a f****** a******, what a jerk move. Haw has been protesting since 2001.
(Why the asterisks in the swear words? Because it’s the kind of language that gets your mouth washed out with soap!)
4) On the subject of Cameron though, the ID card scheme has been struck down, and a huge blow has been made for civil liberties. If nothing else of good comes we can still high five him for that
Big Business:
1) BP discovered a new way to collect oil: They put it in the ocean, and then scientists collect it from the shore in buckets! Genius!
With regards to plugging the hole which is pumping out into the ocean and basically wrecking everything I think they are on explanation number 25 and attempt number 20 at getting it to stop, so far they have pointed fingers and shrugged shoulders. President Obama is going to nail them for it, another reason he is terrific.
2) On a happier note: iPad iPad iPad iPad! I’m getting mine sooo soon, my mouth waters for it. I won’t be queuing with the first crowd on Friday because it’s going to sell out straight away, but expect to queue on Saturday or Monday.
3) British Airways will hopefully still exist this Summer to take me to the US to see family! That is, if the cabin crew onboard (who earn more than nurses who take care of our elderly, our children, our terminally ill, and our drunk aggressive Friday night yobs for less pay) will be happy to serve me my terrible food and occasional plastic cup of coffee.
(On the subject of travel)
The fact that I read about the crash of the Polish President and his cabinet’s airplane, and their deaths…During turbulence…on a plane. All i needed was for Buddy Holly to come on my ipod. Eek.
My holidays were terrific, and I came back happy and healthy!
Did I mention the volcano? A volcano made the sky quiet, and got me an extra few days somewhere sunny and warm. For a lot of people it was incredibly irritating, for me not so much. For awhile though it seemed I might be hitching back from Milan… Another possibility which does not sound so bad!
Additional World Affairs:
Pope Benedict blames everything but priests for child abuse. The world is not shocked. Then tries to say you can’t sue the church because Priests aren’t employees of the church. I stop writing about this one now, because there aren’t enough asterisks in the world for my comments to be censored
The Scientists at the Craig Venter Institute synthesizes a genome out of spare guanine, adenine, thymine and cytosine that they had around. It took them 10 years. It is an amazing achievement yes, but people are confused by it and it is not going to end mankind. (Also, Venter will likely try to patent this because he is an SOB. I bet all the spare GATC came from him just like they did his genome first. big whoop).
Other stuff:
In May I sat all my exams one after the other and emerge with 2 outstanding, 1 great and 2 so-so. No real wipe-outs, and a few gold stars. I am happy with that.
I read a few terrific books of late, including the Biography of Henry Allingham called Kitcheners Last Volunteer which is fascinating.
Learned to play backgammon, discovered I still suck at Poker, and remain flip-the-coin lucky or unlucky at Blackjack.
SAAFE won at the Erotic Awards!!!!! Harlots Parlour was also nominated, and I shall be starting to contribute to them as soon as routine routines to this cats life
Music:
I was definitely in love with Dizzee Rascal’s new single Dizzee Disco as soon as it came on the radio. Not everyone’s cup of tea, but it made me want to go jogging! About time we had an upbeat happy song.
I’ve also been schooled on Why exactly The Beach Boys Pet Sounds was so good and was considered their best… And my derision of it has subsequently lessened (Thanks to a certain Mister). I still think Surfs Up is better though, despite it all.
The new Charlotte Gainsbourg ‘IRM’ with the song ‘Time of the Assassins’ on it is really good. Charlotte is also I think the only woman to willingly work with Director Lars Von Trier twice… which seems something of an achievement in nerve or chutzpah.(Well, she did sing a song with her Dad about incest… so she must have some nerves of steel).
Oh, And M.I.A got in trouble for her red-head violence in the video for Born Free. She said it was to symbolize all groups who have been persecuted… (Which I guess, every group has). I don’t know how the rest of the album will be but that one song doesn’t live up to Kala or Arular for me yet.
That catches us up. I will now eat a croissant and wait for a few days and then post something a little more personal and let you know what I did with my day (Maybe the Zoo!)
Much love xxxx Glad to be back xxxx
In the UK:
Men got the vote in 1918. Following the horrors of the Great War, the country could not refuse the vote to millions who had fought through such hell.
The National Union of Women’s Suffrage Societies worked for 31 years to get women the vote on an equal footing with men, they achieved it in 1928.
The election is today.
About 2/3d’s of eligible adults attended the last one? And this was a record or something like that? Because of apathy? Because people can’t be bothered participating?
Apathy is for pussies if you pardon the language. Those who have fought and died for the right to cast a ballot would probably despair of our lack of consideration for what they fought for.
I don’t care who you vote for, I have not had the benefit of a lifetime of party influence to help make me staunchly pro-yellow team, or pro-blue team or pro-red team… And yes, I know the entire affair has taken on a farcical gameshow lightning round kind of feel… Like some kind of gleaming polished suited and hand-shaking American Gladiators without the benefit of any netting or pools of water.
And I did think Duffy came across a bit of a bigot (East Europeans are here *working, just like some Brits work in East Europe), and I do think Cameron is too smug for his own good, (and he has Thatchers nose.) and I do think Clegg is just the same.
So I won’t cast any shade on anyone’s personal choice. (unless you vote for the Fascists obviously, in which case shade is not all you’ll get).
Just know that participation is great and all of our responsibility, and it feels really good too.
And usually there are people giving away candies and free samples, another perk!!
Here endeth the rant, I will not commence badgering on about something less serious
